　　May 13 — According to reports, Mangshi City will continue to intensify efforts to develop its tea industry this year, enhancing both production capacity and competitiveness to ensure the sector’s healthy and stable growth.

　　Increase efforts to renovate low-yield tea gardens, continuously enhance their productive capacity, boost yields, and improve tea quality. The plan calls for renovating 5,000 mu of low-yield tea gardens, allocated as follows: 1,000 mu in Mangshi Town, 1,000 mu in Mengga Town, 1,000 mu in Jiangdong Township, 500 mu in Fengping Town, 500 mu in Wuchaolu Township, 500 mu in Xiangang Township, and 500 mu in Xishan Township.

　　Actively seek project funding and attract investment, while intensifying support for leading tea enterprises and tea farmers. Alongside robust project applications, we will work diligently to address the challenges faced by tea companies; enhance the technological innovation and market‑expansion capabilities of these industry leaders; attract capital and equipment from both within and outside the province to pursue independent, joint, and collaborative development; and establish corporate groups to bolster their competitive edge.

　　Strengthen scientific and technological innovation, and intensify efforts to promote mechanized tea harvesting and pruning techniques. The plan is to train more than 3,000 tea farmers, with training focused primarily on the application of mechanization in tea gardens and the renovation of low‑yield tea plantations. At the same time, demonstration sites for mechanized harvesting will be established in Jiangdong, Wuchaolu, and Mengwei to facilitate the wider adoption of field machinery in tea cultivation; in coordination with the Municipal Soil and Fertilizer Station, we will carry out citywide trials of soil testing and formula‑based fertilization in tea gardens; and we will further bolster the promotion and planting of new tea tree varieties.

　　We will earnestly advance the development of standardized tea gardens and pollution-free tea gardens in Mangshi. By promoting green pest‑control measures and clean production technologies, we will enhance the quality and safety of Mangshi’s tea products, foster large‑scale cultivation, standardize production processes, and strengthen industrialized operations, thereby comprehensively elevating the city’s tea‑production capacity and competitiveness. We plan to complete the construction of a 1,000‑mu high‑quality, standardized tea garden at the Bangjiao base in Xishan.

　　Strengthen intellectual property protection, accelerate the commercialization of existing research outcomes, and ensure that scientific and technological advances are promptly translated into real-world productive forces.

　　The Yunnan Province Tea Mechanization Production Technology Training Conference was held in Mangshi, Dehong.

　　On September 17, 2014, the Yunnan Province Tea Mechanization Production Technology Training Conference was held in Mangshi, Dehong Prefecture. A total of 65 participants attended, including departmental leaders and technicians from Pu’er, Lincang, Xishuangbanna, Baoshan, Dehong, as well as representatives from machinery manufacturing enterprises. For this training session, each prefecture-level city was allocated only one county to send a representative; Luchun County dispatched four delegates—namely, the director of the Tea Office and heads of tea enterprises—to represent Honghe Prefecture at the conference.

　　At the training session, participants first watched live demonstrations of mechanized tea‑garden management techniques—covering machine tillage, mechanical harvesting, machinery maintenance, and pesticide application using sprayers—as well as solar‑powered insecticidal lamps. Technical experts then provided detailed instruction on the operation of various tea‑processing machines. In the afternoon, experts from Yunnan Agricultural University delivered a training program on accelerating the adoption and application of mechanization in regional tea‑garden management, promoting standardized production practices, and enhancing the level of mechanization in the region’s key agricultural sector while improving tea‑production efficiency. Through this training, tea‑technology professionals and heads of tea enterprises from all counties and cities gained a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the proper use of diverse tea‑garden machinery.

　　Luchun County has the largest tea‑planting area in Honghe Prefecture. In recent years, as economic reforms have accelerated, large numbers of workers have shifted to other sectors, leading to a growing labor shortage. As a result, tea‑producing areas frequently face situations where there is no one to harvest, insufficient picking capacity, inadequate pruning, poor pruning quality, and uneven cultivation—problems that inflict substantial losses on tea production. The adoption and dissemination of mechanized pruning, harvesting, and cultivation technologies can significantly free up labor, reduce physical strain and production costs, boost productivity, and ease the imbalance between labor supply and demand, thereby fostering the healthy development of tea production toward greater scale, intensification, and industrialization. Moreover, training will help promote the application and operation of mechanized equipment in Luchun County, advancing the mechanization of tea‑garden management.
